Significant and substantial progress has been made in meeting many of the targets—including halving the number of people living in extreme poverty and the proportion of people without sustainable access to improved sources of drinking water. Remarkable gains have been made in the fight against malaria and tuberculosis. There have been visible improvements in all health areas as well as primary education.


On 20 February, 20103 the State Program “On economic development and the eradication of poverty in the Republic of Azerbaijan during 2003-2005” was endorsed within a presidential decree to achieve Millennium Development Goals. To maintain this development sustainability in the improvement of social welfare the State Program “On sustainable development and the eradication poverty in the Republic of Azerbaijan in the period of 2008- 2015 years” has been established.
