UNDP Resident Representative
Mr. Ercan Murat
Mr. Ercan Murat (Turkey) has been appointed as the UNDP Resident Representative ad interim (a.i.) for the Republic of Azerbaijan in January 2016.
Mr. Murat joined the United Nations in 1964 and worked for UNDP and other UN agencies in a number of countries.
From 1964 to 1972, Mr. Murat was an Administrative Officer at UNDP Turkey; then from 1974 to 1977 he worked as an Administrative Officer/Assistant Resident Representative (Operations) at UNDP Bangladesh, and held a number of different posts in UNDP New York and UNV Geneva from 1977 till 1989.
During 1989-1993 he was UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in Libya. He served as UN Resident Coordinator/UNDP Resident Representative (UN RC/UNDP RR) in Kyrgyzstan (1993-1997) and Azerbaijan (1997-2002) and was Country Director at UNDP Afghanistan (2002-2004).
Later, Mr. Murat served as UN RC/UNDP RR a.i. in Moscow, Russian Federation (2005-2006). He was UNDP RR a.i. in Tajikistan (Feb-Sept, 2007); in Uzbekistan (2008-2009); Officer-in-Charge at UNDP Ukraine (May-Sept, 2009); Deputy Director a.i. at UNDP Regional Bureau for Europe and CIS in New York (2010); Officer-in-Charge at UNDP Kazakhstan (2010); Senior Advisor to the Director, RBEC, UNDP Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan (2010-2011); UN RC/UNDP RR a.i. in Somalia (2012-2013); Senior Advisor to the Regional Director at UN Women in Istanbul, Turkey (2013-2014) and Country Director a.i. at UNDP Afghanistan (2015).
Mr. Ercan Murat is a citizen of Turkey. Following two years of study at the University of Ankara in Turkey Law faculty, he graduated from the Academy of Economics and Commercial Sciences. He also studied at the New York University for Master of Public Administration programme. He speaks Turkish, English and French.
He is assisted by UNDP Deputy Resident Representative, Operations Manager and Assistant Resident Representative for Programme.

Deputy Resident Representative
Mrs. Nato Alhazishvili is UNDP Deputy Resident Representative and is responsible for both the programmatic and operational aspects of its work. She has been working for UNDP for more than 13 years, mainly in the countries of Central Europe, Balkans and former Soviet Union. Before joining UNDP Nato Alhazishvili was Director of the Budget Department of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia. Nato holds a Masters degree in Public Administration from State University of New York at Albany.
