Modernization of Customs Services

Development of efficient and transparent customs services are among the important tools for reducing barriers to doing business, as perceived by investors and traders. Development of the customs service is among the main priorities set forth in the State Programme on Poverty Reduction and Sustainable Development in 2008-2015. The State Programme on Development of the Customs Service of Azerbaijan Republic for 2007-2011 is another key policy document which determines the directions for modernization of customs service in Azerbaijan. This project aims to support the State Customs Committee in strengthening the customs control at the air transport facilities in Baku, as well as its special operations, speeding up customs clearance of air cargo, processing of passengers, and prevention of smuggling.

Project Goals

Project goal is to contribute to the priority areas of State Programme on Development of the Customs Service and to support the modernization of the customs service in Azerbaijan through infrastructure development, automation of the processes, and personnel training. The project will facilitate the establishment of the Target Centre at the Head Department of Air Transport; use of new technologies and operation management by the customs personnel; and application of best practices in the target definition field.

Project Accomplishments

  • Ten high-profile officers of the Customs Service participated in a training workshop on “Use of new video observation equipment and new methods of video observation”
