Third National Communication on Climate ChangeThe project supports the Government of Azerbaijan in preparation of its third national report under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. The report will contain an update on greenhouse gas inventory in the country, assessment of the country's vulnerability to climate change and an account of ongoing and planned adaptation and mitigation measures to minimize the impact of climate change.
Teaching Human Development CourseThis project introduces a human development course in the universities of Azerbaijan. It seeks to broaden perspective of young people on developmental issues.

It secures the flow of multiple ecosystem services, including carbon storage and sequestration, while ensuring ecosystem resilience to climate change. It also aims to convert unsustainable practices into sustainable land and forest management practice.
Promoting Development of Renewable EnergyThe project aims to promote the development of sustainable energy sources in Azerbaijan. The project helps the newly created State Company on Alternative and Renewable Energy Sources to overcome barriers to development of sustainable energy by improving legislation, strengthening economic viability and building staff capacity.
Improving Solid Waste ManagementThe goal of the project was to enhance the management of the municipal solid wastes in the country. The project helps to revise legislation, define waste generation capacity, create a data-bank on solid wastes, and launch a small-scale pilot project on wastes recycling.
Support to UN Global Compact Local NetworkThe project aims to increase the social responsibility of business community in Azerbaijan by institutionalizing the local network of Global Compact in Azerbaijan, expanding its membership and organizing information-dissemination campaigns on the UN Global Compact.
Promoting Employment and Innovation 2011-2014In partnership with the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection and SYSLAB, a Norwegian NGO, the project has helped to establish Baku Training Center for the unemployed. It has introduced an innovative employment scheme which increases people's employability and supports them in proactive job search.
Improving Management of Marine EcosystemsThe goal of this one-year initiative is to prepare, a full-fledged project on improving the management of protected areas represented by marine ecosystems in Azerbaijan. The project will particularly focus on enhancing the management of the globally important Ghizilagaj nature reserve located on the Caspian coast.

National Biodiversity Planning to Support the implementation of CBD Strategic PlanThis project is part of the second generation of Biodiversity Enabling Activities (BD EA) under the GEF. Azerbaijan has been Party to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) since 08/03/2000. Azerbaijan had prepared already its 4th National Report on Biodiversity and the 1st National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP). On the 10th meeting of Member States conducted on October 18-29 2010 in Aichi District of Nagoya city of Japan the updated Strategic Plan, including Aichi Targets on Biodiversity for the years 2011-2020 have been adopted.
Nationally Appropriate Mitigation ActionsAzerbaijan is a fast developing, oil and gas oriented economy. According to 2nd National Communication to UNFCCC, Azerbaijan’s annual GHG emissions were 50.6 mln tCO2e/year in 2005 with the energy sector (i.e. combustion of oil&gas) accounting for the largest share of domestic emissions, more than 50% or 31.3 mln tCO2. National annual consumption of oil and gas is now at about 5.2 mln toe, with the residential and transport sectors together accounting for over 90% of end-use.
Demographic StudyThis study aims to analyze the demographic trends in Azerbaijan, their impact on economic and social development and advise the decision-makers on how to maximize the benefits of the demographic situation and address existing and potential challenges.
Azerbaijan’s First Biennial Update Report to the UNFCCThe goal of the project is to assist the country in mainstreaming and integration of climate change consideration into national and sectoral development policies by giving continuity to the institutional and technical capacity strengthening process, partly initiated and sustained by the National Communications. The immediate objective of the project is to assist the country in the preparation and submission of its First Biennial Update Report to the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC for the fulfillment of its obligations to the Convention under Dec. 1/CP. 16 par. 60 and Dec 2/CP. 17 par. 41 and it’s Annex III.
Conservation and Sustainable use of Globally Significant BiodiversityThe main goal of the preparatory phase of the project is to undertake the baseline studies and national consultations that will inform design of the full-fledge project. Specifically, the studies will help identify the pockets of high concentration of traditional crops and actual areas for seed planting; explore feasibility of establishing genetic databank and seed depository.
Increasing Representation of Effectively Managed Marine Ecosystems in the protected area system of Azerbaijanhe project is focused on improving the management capacity of Gizil-Agaj to address the external threats to, and pressures on, the conservation values of the reserve complex. Also, it will be focused on creating the enabling conditions for increasing, diversifying and stabilising the financial flows to all coastal and marine protected areas and developing and implementing a long term monitoring system to ensure that the integrity of ecosystems are not pushed over critical thresholds in the commercialisation of, and natural resource use in, marine and coastal protected areas
Promoting Innovation and Employment in Azerbaijan 2016-2017The goal of scaling up the project is to contribute to implementation of the National Employment Strategy and to job creation and local/regional business development by providing motivated and competent work force. This scaling up will be achieved through: a) the establishment of the new Syslab Centre in Masalli region and b) sustainability of both the newly-created Syslab Centre in Masalli region and already existing Syslab Centre in Ganja.
