Support to UN Global Compact Local Network

Refresher seminar on Global Compact Initiative for business community, NGO and academia in September 2011 in Baku

The Global Compact (GC) is a United Nations initiative to challenge businesses around the world to exert greater care for social issues and act upon a set of universally recognized principles in the areas of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption. The UN Global Compact was launched in July 2000 as a leadership platform to encourage corporate policies and practices that are socially responsible and environmentally sustainable. The GC process was introduced in Azerbaijan in 2006 and the national chapter of GC was officially launched in November 2011 with the joining of private enterprises and not-for-profit organizations who had expressed their commitment to the principles of GC. Presently, there are 18 members of Global Compact Local Network (GCLN) in Azerbaijan, representing business sector, civil society, and the academic community.
