Overview

What We Do

UNDP in Azerbaijan works to promote effective governance and sustainable development and is also active in the areas of gender equality and post-conflict rehabilitation and disaster-risk reduction. Effective governance is the priority for UNDP whose support encompasses a wide array of interventions from improving the work of civil service, to e-governance and improvement of connectivity of the remotest corners of Azerbaijan. UNDP interventions for Sustainable development support Azerbaijan in mitigating the effects of climate change, especially in highly vulnerable mountainous areas, improving capacity to develop alternative sources of energy as well as management of protected areas and ecosystems. UNDP has been active in facilitating two rounds of post-2015 discussions in Azerbaijan.

Our Goals

With rapid economic growth fueled by hydrocarbon wealth, Azerbaijan Republic has joined the ranks of middle income countries and has improved a number of socio-economic indicators. The country is taking a more assertive role on the international stage – it was elected a non-permanent member of UN Security Council for 2012-2014. In this development context UNDP partners with the Government of Azerbaijan to help the country sustain the achievements and propel forward by diversifying economy, improving governance, and enhancing the state of environment.
