    Workshop to strengthen flood forecasting and early warning systems

    A two-day workshop on flood forecasting and early warning systems kicked off in Gabala yesterday. Held as part of the project “Integrating Climate Change Risks into Water & Flood Management by Vulnerable Mountainous Communities in the Greater Caucasus Region,” the workshop brings together local stakeholders including project staff, beneficiaries, national and international experts, and delegates from the vulnerable mountainous communities in question. They plan to share their expertise on flood forecasting and early warning systems in the field.

    Joint research report on Migrants Spouses and Family members presented.

    IOM together with UNDP presented a joint research report on Migrants’ spouses and family members, staying behind in Azerbaijan at UN House. The report is the results of the project “Building Knowledge and Improving Support for Migrants’ Spouses and Family Members Staying Behind in Azerbaijan”, which was carried out by the IOM under UNDP’s programme on “Support Gender Research in Azerbaijan”. IOM was able to undertake this very important research thanks to the financial support of UNDP in Azerbaijan.

    I am very pleased that today, we have gathered in the second largest city of Azerbaijan to discuss the future of the world and the region and your country, and your suggestions about how to formulate and implement our development strategy beyond 2015. We decided to visit Ganja, because Ganja is a historical city with a rich and unique culture where most of the population is youth. Ganja is also a vibrant place driven by the spirit of youth with a strong passion for life. Now I know why Ganja is selected to be the 2016 European Youth Capital!

    Azerbaijan will host 2014 Global Forum on Youth Policies

    On 26 March, 2014 The United Nations Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth, Ahmad Alhendawi and the Minister of Youth and Sport of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Azad Rahimov, announced that the Global Forum on Youth Policies, an international gathering of over 700 Government-level Ministers, experts and youth organizations, is to be held in Baku from 28 to 30 October, 2014.

    UNDP held first MUN Security Council Conference in Azerbaijan

    Azerbaijan’s first International Model UN Security Council Conference held on 21-25 October was organized within the joint project "Youth Participation in Decision Making and Policy Implementation" between the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Azerbaijan and UNDP Azerbaijan. This was a time when the Republic of Azerbaijan chaired the United Nations Security Council as a result of election a non-permanent member of the Council. A four-day conference brought together 45 university students and graduates of 15 states currently serving as members of the UN Security Council including Azerbaijan.
