    UNDP Administrator Helen Clark and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov signed an agreement today that establishes the Russian Federation – UNDP Trust Fund for Development, with initial funding of US $25 million from Russia over the next four years.

  • Treaty on cooperation between officials of Azerbaijan’s State Border Service and Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs to be prepared Dec 19, 2014

    The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the European Union (EU) and the State Border Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan plan to hold different training courses for employees of the relevant government bodies of two countries under the joint project “Better coordination of protection of the land border between Georgia and Azerbaijan”. The training courses will be drafted based on the objectives of the project’s major components.

    The current Ebola crisis reminds us that fighting communicable diseases requires behaviour change, engaging communities, partnerships with government and civil society, and reducing inequalities. Early diagnosis and treatment is vital too. These lessons have been learned in the fight against HIV. If the AIDS epidemic is to be ended as a public health threat by 2030, the sense of urgency and commitment to human rights which drove the early days of the response cannot be lost.

  • The project on "Better coordination of protection of the land border between Azerbaijan and Georgia” launched Dec 1, 2014

    In recent years, the Government of Azerbaijan has taken important steps to ensure the sustainable development of the country in all directions. Further improvement of the border management system was part of these developmental processes. In addition to benefiting from the internal resources in this area, in cooperation with the various international partners, the Government of Azerbaijan on a regular basis took advantage of the best international practices and has successfully implemented several large-scale projects.

  • Second unit of Sheki hydropower station launched Nov 17, 2014

    Today, the opening ceremony of the second unit for Sheki hydropower station has been held. The installation of the unit was performed in the framework of the joint project on “Promoting Development of Sustainable Energy in Azerbaijan” between the State Agency on Alternative and Renewable Energy (SAARES) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Azerbaijan. The project was funded by the European Union (EU) and the Government of Norway.

She gave a briefing to the press on the objectives of the visit at the Heydar Aliyev International Airport. In the briefing, Helen Clark expressed satisfaction for seeing Azerbaijan as a middle-income country and stressed the importance of strengthening strategic cooperation between the UNDP and Azerbaijan.
