Newly-appointed UN Resident Coordinator presents his credentials to the President of Azerbaijan
Today, Mr. Antonius Broek presented his credentials to His Excellency Mr. Ilham H. Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan as Resident Coordinator of the United Nations and Resident Representative for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in the Republic of Azerbaijan.
A national of the Netherlands and career United Nations staff, Mr. Broek last served as the UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP and UNFPA Resident Representative in the Republic of Belarus from June 2008 to October 2012. His prior postings included UNDP Country Director in Burundi in 2004-2008, Senior Deputy Resident Representative in UNDP Ethiopia (2001 – 2004), Deputy Chief, Country Office Support Division, in the Regional Bureau for Asia and Pacific (1996 - 2000) and Assistant Resident Representative in UNDP China (1992 - 1996). Prior to joining UNDP, Mr. Broek worked with the UN Office for Project Services (UNOPS) as Project Management Officer in New York (1986 - 1992) and with Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) as an expert. Prior to joining the UN System, he worked as hydrologist in Mali and Zambia.
Mr. Broek holds Master of Science degree from the State University of Agriculture, Wageningen, the Netherlands. He is fluent in English, French, Spanish, Dutch and German.
Mr. Broek is married and has two daughters.
