Azerbaijan’s success in youth field is spotlighted by the United NationsSep 2, 2013
Baku, A delegation led by Deputy Minister of Youth and Sport Mr. Intigam Babayev consisting of relevant staff of the Ministry and UNDP held its last meetings at the UN New York Headquarters in the framework of preparation for UN Model in Baku.
The delegation met with Ms. Cihan Sultanoglu, UNDP Assistant Administrator and UNDP Director of the Regional Bureau for Europe and CIS. “Holding UN Model in cooperation with the Ministry of Youth and Sport is a sign of close relations between UNDP and the Government of Azerbaijan” – she said.
Azerbaijani youth’ success achieved in world sport was highly appreciated during the meetings with Mr. Mahis Nasser, Director of Outreach Division of UNDPI and Mr. Eric Dienes, Liason Officer of UN Office on Sport for Development and Peace. It was mentioned that hosting such international events like 2014 European Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships, 2015 first ever European Games, 2016 Chess Olympiad, 2017 Islamic Solidarity Games and 2019 World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships in Baku were the result of a dynamic and successful state policy. The reforms held in the youth sector of Azerbaijan, the State Program and strengthening of joint efforts in the direction of implementing of existing experience as a successful model to other member states were discussed as well.
Mr. Intigam Babayev, head of delegation, stressed mutual interests for better (higher level) cooperation with UNDP and other specialized agencies during the discussions held in warm and friendly environment and invited them to visit Azerbaijan.
UN Security Model will be held in upcoming October in Baku. A four-day conference will bring together 45 university students and graduates of 15 states currently serving as members of the UN Security Council including Azerbaijan.
