COVID19: Ministry of Health and UNDP launch e-learning platform for healthcare professionals in Azerbaijan

July 30, 2020

Baku, 23 July 2020 -The Public Health and Reforms Center of the Ministry of Health of Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijan Medical University, the National Training Institute for Doctors and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) launched an e-learning platform that is free to access for Azerbaijan’s entire healthcare workforce.

The platform currently offers over 15 educational and training courses, including infection prevention, diagnosis and treatment of COVID19 and other acute respiratory infections in adults and children as well as numerous educational resources for healthcare professionals.

As the COVID-19 crisis is unfolding, many healthcare workers are faced with previously unknown situations. This e-platform provides healthcare professionals with an opportunity to attend online training courses and certification programs, communicate and exchange experiences and earn CME and CPD credits.

This new learning system will help Azerbaijan’s frontline medical personnel become better prepared to respond to the challenges of COVID19 pandemic and other future health crises and it will be especially helpful for medical professionals in rural areas with limited opportunities to attend training courses in the capital or abroad.

By using e-education, all doctors will be able to keep up with the latest medical breakthroughs. In a few months from now, the e-platform will be expanded to offer additional e-courses in various medical disciplines, such as general infectious diseases, neurology, general surgery, anatomy, oncology, radiology, cardiology and others.

The COVID19 pandemic has triggered an unprecedented demand for digital health technology solutions and the solutions that have already been developed by the Ministry of Health and UNDP are not only helping expand the digital capacity of Azerbaijan’s healthcare system in response to the ongoing pandemic but can be further scaled up to support and improve the system in the post COVID19 era.
