Baku, 19 June 2020 – The closing conference of the ‘Promoting the Role of Civil Society in Gender-Sensitive Implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals’ project brought together high representatives from the government, the European Union (EU), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and CSO representatives.
Opening speeches were delivered by the Head of Cooperation of the European Union Delegation to Azerbaijan / Minister-Counsellor Simona Gatti, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative Charu Bist, the Head of the International Relations and Protocol Service Department of the State Committee for Women, Children and Family Affairs (SCWCFA) Sabina Manafova and the Head of the Legal Support division of SCFWCA Taliya Ibrahimova.
Representatives of each of 9 CSOs funded by the project presented their key their achievements.
The ‘Promoting the Role of Civil Society in Gender-Sensitive Implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals’ project funded by EU and co-funded and implemented by UNDP, focuses on providing support to women, children and people with disabilities.
The overall objective of this project was to promote active and effective participation of civil society organizations in the gender-sensitive formulation and implementation of the national agenda for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
This 27-month project covered 37 regions of Azerbaijan, including 5 regions of the Nakchivan Autonomic Republic.
This project helped 662 women in Azerbaijan gain entrepreneurial skills and organized a series of awareness raising sessions on early marriage attended by 650 young girls. It also provided seed funding to 129 women to start their own business and helped 1200 women across the country to receive legal aid. A total of 1298 women attended the trainings on SDGs organized in the frames of the project.
