Baku, 27 May 2021 – The European Union (EU), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the State Agency on Vocational Education (SAVE) launched a series of ‘open door’ days in the vocational education and training (VET) centres in Ganja, Jalilabad and Sheki.

The aim of the ‘open door’ days is to build more awareness about the VET centres and help make VET education more attractive for young people in Azerbaijan.

The first in the series of events was organised in partnership with the Ganja State Vocational Centre for Trade and Services, and the Ganja State Vocational Centre on Industry and Technologies. The virtual event brought together 300 senior students from Ganja, parents, teachers, also the representatives of SAVE and the Ganja City Education Department.

The participants had an opportunity to learn more about the ongoing modernisation of the VET system, received information about admission procedures as well as facilities and services, which are currently available in the Ganja VET Centre. They also discussed challenges and VET career opportunities and perspectives in the regions.

A survey was also shared during the event to learn more about the public attitude towards VET as a choice in education and the findings of this survey will be used to plan future project activities to increase attractiveness of VET for youth.

The attendees had an opportunity to win gifts by participating in VET quizzes.

This event is organised as part of the “VET for the Future: Development of VET Providers’ Excellence in Azerbaijan” project which is funded by the EU and implemented by UNDP in partnership with the State Agency on Vocational Education. The project aims to support the modernization of VET institutions in Azerbaijan to deliver competence-based training in order to increase the attractiveness and labour market relevance of VET.
